  1. Here is how you can listen in on other people's cellular conversations. First make sure the earpiece volume is set to max as for some reason it will be very, very quiet.

  3. First enter the "Manual Test Command" mode thusly:

  5. Boot and press 7 & 9 together within 10 seconds of booting (It's a good idea to wait until after entering the service area.)
  6.  
  7. Press MENU SND END RCL STO CLR
  8.  
  9. Display reads: "Good timing"
  10.  
  11. Press 1 & 3 together
  12.  
  13. To listen in on a frequency:

  15. Initialize: press # 0 1 SND SND
  16.  
  17. Unmute Receive: press # 1 2 SND
  18.  
  19. Look at the last 3 digits of the second line. That is the control channel. Voice channels are in channels separated by 21. Add 21 to control channel to get the first voice channel.

  21. Example: Second line of display reads "130-0349". You want to try channel 370 (349 + 21=370)

  23. Note: A carrier goes up to channel 333. B carrier starts at 334. So 349 would be PacTel in LA.

  25. To set a channel you load a synthesizer:  #09XXX

  27. Example: press #09370 SND
  28.  
  29. You will now be listening to that channel. Maybe you'll hear something other than static. Try another channel. Don't be too dissapointed. This is no substitute for a scanner.

  31. To reboot: # 0 2 SND (or just turn off)

  34. To access Programming Mode:

  38. Press RCL & MENU together within 10 seconds of booting.

  40. Press 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4 5

Use the two volume buttons by the earpiece to scroll through the options. In this mode YOU CAN REALLY SCREW THINGS UP so be careful. You may have to take your phone back in for programming if you screw up here. The only thing I recommend is to change your Power On message. Just put in a new string and it will be displayed under "Power On" on the display when your phone is idle.

  44. CLR button will get you out of the programming mode.

  47. To access test mode:

  49. Press RCL & MENU together (anytime)

  51. Press: *  T E S T M O D E #

  53. From there you will see two lines of info on the display. The top line is the signal strength in hex. The last 3 digits of the second  row are the cellular control channel you are currently on. If you unscrew the antenna, you will see it search for other control channels.

  55. CLR gets you out of this mode.
